The performance of a PC is a combination of factors and one of the most important is the disk drive. If the disk is slow then the PC starts slowly and it takes a long time to get to the desktop. When you click programs to run them they take a long time to start up, and if they need to access the disk drive when they are running then they run more slowly. To speed up the PC and to speed up Windows you should optimise the disk and O&O Defrag 15 is a great tool for this.
The disk is analysed when Defrag 15 starts and you can see a fragmentation map in the lower part of the window. Red blocks show files that are fragmented and slow to access. There are several defragmentation methods to choose from and the benefits of each one is slightly different.
Start the defragmentation process and you can continue to use the computer, it just continues in the background. The time taken depends on the disk size and how full it is, but there are quick optimise methods for when you want the hob done quickly. See the before and after disk maps.
Although you can run a disk defragmentation job at any time, a convenient way to optimise the disk drive is to set Defrag 15 to run whenever the screen saver is active. So when the PC is idle, the disk is optimised. Defrag 15 can also be scheduled to run on any days and at any time you like.
Different parts of the disk can be accessed at different speeds. Defarg 15 can place startup files and programs in the zone that is the fastest. It can put other files in the medium speed zone and files that you rarely used are placed in the slowest zone. This helps to boost the PC's speed.
O&O Defrag 15 Pro has many more features and it is much more powerful than Disk Defragmenter built into Windows. It's also better than freeware disk defragmenters too. It has boot time defragmentation for instance, and this defragments Windows files that are normally locked by running before Windows even starts. There is a nice History tab that shows defragmentation over time and the files accelerated over time. A Quick Start button enables you to optimise the disk with one click, but there are also lots of useful configuration options for expert users.
